Our innovative approach blends technology with deep legal expertise, making us a leader in our field. Headquartered in Seattle with an office in San Francisco, we raised $60M Series B in April 2025 led by Sapphire Ventures with Mayfield and Thomson Reuters Ventures, bringing total funding to $91M. We're scaling rapidly and looking for exceptional talent to join us in this next phase of growth.
We're looking for passionate team members who are motivated by our mission and ready to help us achieve it.
Who We're Looking For
Supio's competitive advantage isn't just our UI – it's the set of powerful AI "engines" we've built: drafting, structured extraction, timelines, economics, and more. Our next phase of growth depends on exposing these capabilities through partner APIs, so distribution isn't limited to a single Supio interface.
As API Architect, you'll own the design and governance of Supio's external API surface – the "contract with the world." You'll architect how internal capabilities become consumable API products. This is a strategic, cross-cutting role.
A bit about you
  • You've designed and shipped developer-facing APIs at scale—not just consumed them.
  • You have strong opinions on REST design, versioning, developer experience, and API governance.
  • You think in terms of "API as product"—you understand that external APIs are a business surface, not just technical plumbing.
  • You can navigate the politics of internal vs. external contracts and partner effectively with core engineering teams.
  • You're comfortable being an authority and saying "no" to designs that compromise the external contract.
What You'll Do
  • Own the design, standards, and governance of Supio's external API surface (endpoints, objects, semantics, error handling, pagination).
  • Architect "capabilities as APIs"—define how internal product engines get exposed as consumable API products for partners.
  • Define and enforce API standards: naming conventions, authentication patterns, rate limiting, versioning, and deprecation policies.
  • Partner with Core Engineering to establish clean boundaries between internal services and external contracts.
  • Own API security posture, including auth models, permissions, and abuse prevention.
  • Review and approve all partner-facing API designs before they ship.
  • Define migration and deprecation patterns that protect partner integrations while allowing platform evolution.
  • Serve as the technical authority for partner escalations involving API contracts.
  • Mentor and influence API Platform engineers on design best practices.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time designing developer-facing APIs.
  • Proven experience owning API platforms at scale—you've defined standards, not just followed them.
  • Deep expertise in REST API design, including versioning strategies, error handling, and backward compatibility.
  • Experience with API security: OAuth, API keys, rate limiting, abuse prevention.
  • Strong communication skills; you can articulate design decisions to both engineers and business stakeholders.
  • Experience working cross-functionally to define internal/external boundaries with platform or core teams.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience building "API as product" offerings in B2B SaaS contexts.
  • Background in developer experience: SDKs, documentation, sandbox environments.
  • Familiarity with API gateway technologies and infrastructure.
  • Experience with GraphQL or event-driven APIs (webhooks, streaming).
  • Prior experience in legal technology, fintech, or other regulated industries.
